Got a 79 J truck that has been sitting for a while and got it running but the only prob i am having is that it will not take high range in the tranny. Has anyone had this prob? It takes low fine no prob with that and i can here the tranny when i put it in high range and it sounds like it is not even in gear Thanks alot for your time.

Your shift lever may be out of alignment or the low range box is FUBAR.
I'd check the shifter alignment first.

The low range is fine it is high range that i can not get to come in. I messed with the shifter and put it in by hand. I was wondering if it the slide might be stuck.
Don't know what the prob is but try shuting the engine off, shift to HI, restart motor.

There are 3 positions on the QT low range shifter: all the way down is Hi, the middle is neutral and all the way up is Lo. You sure you are getting it shifted past N in to Hi?

Yep. Got to go in. You can drop the low range pretty easy after draining the case. The low range will have some fluid trapped in it so put a pan under it.
