...............but it was too good to be true. On the way to work yesterday, I noticed my oil pressure was 20 at full speed, and around 5  at idle. So I stopped in at the auto parts store and picked up some Lucas oil treatment. My rig doesn't use or leak oil (yet) so when I got to work I drained out about a qt and put in the Lucas. I let it run about ten minutes to mix it then worked all day. When it was time to leave, I let it warm up for about 15 minutes, and it idled at 40 psi! But alas, once it warmed up it now idles at around 10 and is around 25 at full speed. Anyway, at least the Lucas quieted it down a bit, and gives me pece of mind.

I think I'm going to pick soem Lucs up today.... ALOT of good talk about it....I will try it and report my findings....

history:

This had been ongoing with no significant change in psi since 1999:I have yet to throw a mechanical gage on it...afraid to ;)

I have 2psi at idle in summer.. if that.... and 15 cruising down the road....when cold I have 40psi now at startup and about 7psi when engine is warm...I have shnged the sending unit already.... no differences.

I put in a quart of lucas while I was in Colorado last week. Cruising PSI didn't change much (I get about 50), but idle PSI went from 10 (warm) to 20-30 (warm). I like this stuff!

Hey RB, when I had the stock oil gauge in my 75, it read 1 to 5 lbs at an idle and 10 to 20 at speed. I bought a mechanical gauge and it reads 15 to 20 idle (hot) and 55 cold going down the road and about 40 hot at speed. I have never had any faith in stock gauges before. If you put a real gauge on the Beast you will be pleasantly surprised.

I slapped a mechanical gauge on mine after I noticed about 4 psi when warm driving down the road. Eek! I ordered an oil pump and spring kit right away, but then went to change the oil and found it was so thinned out from my crappy old carb dumping gas down the thing. Since then I put my rebuilt 2100 on it. I still checked the pressure and found 35 psi at idle when warm. Woohoo! So now I have a spare oil pump kit and high pressure spring. I figure I'll need it sometime anyways.

Well today it's idling around 12-15, and doing 30-40 at full speed. Go figure.

Today I did tighten 2 bolts on the rear passenger side exaust manifold, a full turn each, and re-attached the ground at the bumper. Maybe it made the jeep happy. Oh yeah, instead of running with the temp guage right on the bottom of the green area, it's moved a quarter inch further into the green. Bizarre.

I bought some Lucas Oil treatment and some tranny treatment....

The trans stuf is for the burb and the oil stuff is for the beast.

I haven't had a chance today to drain the beast or the tranny in the burb...I had a long day of diagnostics on the burb engine...found a detonated plug in #6 which was the main problem.... I don't know how it happened either...

Hey, I don't know if you have a drain in your trannsmission or not, but I told a friend the other day this and he was stoked because he over filled his tranny and din't want to have to pull the pan and get a new gasket or pull any lines to drian it. If you take out your vacuum modulator, you'll lose about two quarts or more. Something I'll def keep in mind. ;)

I just used some of the Lucas on mine when I drove from Santa Rosa, CA to Pullman WA. I had rebuilt the pump and had the oil pump within specs, tightened the spring, and could only get 18 PSI at highway speed. Since I was VERY loaded, and pulling a trailer, that scared me. I put Lucas in with 20/50 oil and now run 25-30 at cruise speed. I still need to plastigage my bearings, but will CONTINUE to use the Lucas in my egine! (Anyone need a can of Restore?)

My 258 IL6 keeps almost 80 psi at fast idle on startup. Then when it warms it drops to 3 or 4 at idle, and only to about 12 at highway speed. Its been this wayu for the last 30,000 miles...but I think I'll try some Lucas and hopefully quieten the lifter noise...Anyone had any luck on quieting the lifters ?

My turn... I am about 500 miles on my lucas change. I am still running 10 psi over before about 50 when warm. But now I am using about half a quart of oil every two weeks. Never had to add in the past. I put the tranny treatment in last week. Not sure if it likes it. Seems to shift better but I am thinking it is about to let go and the Lucas is just buying some time. Oh well. It will go eventually.

My report:

I bought the trans treatment for my Burb.... WOW!!!! did a fluid change today and added the Lucas.... immediately notice a difference in engagement and shifting.... I am very pleased so far....still have to get around to doing the oil in my FSJ....

the tranny treatment states it restores old fluid and reconditions the bands if they are slightly burnt...I don't know how true that is wut never have heard one bad thing of Lucas treatments... only good....worth the $10 to extend the lift of anything under the hood if it's that good.... :D

Hey KYJMAN I too have a very noisy I6. Mine sounds like #5 is clackiing. I'm just dreading doing any lifter work. I will be pulling the valve cover soon and doing some investigation (it leaks slightly anyways).

Your not alone!

OK - I got a question here for the Lucas concubines ...

Something I noticed on one of Lucas displays with the crank sprocket things is that the Lucas side created a LOT more friction when you crank it. So, I assuming the stuff sticks to everything like glue which I can see some benefit in some worn conditions.

BUT - does higher oil pressure necessary mean better oil FLOW. What I'm wondering is are we basically just pushing a thicker mixture through? I'm sure the Lucas rep guys have plenty to say on this, but I'm just wondering if higher pressure is a real indication of 'goodness'.

I don't think the little display is friction on the lucas side. Its probaly a little harder to turn cause you have more oil to squash between the gears, to squeeze out from in between. I have noticed that too. but if the oil is harder to squash then its gonna work better on crank bearings fa sho!

Umm do they make a high volume pump or anything for FSJ's? A accuantance of mine said that he has one on his FSJ truck (360), but I cant find one anywhere.

Yea this low oil pressure worries me, Do you think you can add a washer in between the spring and the bolt thing to up the pressure?

Also what do you think about the Prolong? Me and a friend tried it on his mower that he was hauling to the dump.

Poured some in, then drained the oil. And let it run full throttle all day. Then put it in his field all night. The next morning it was off, we went out and it ran out of gas. Filled it up, and the **** thing started up. We got tired off the racket, and he hauled it off.
