Whats the spline count on an '86 J-20 rear Dana 60 axle. How about the front. Wondering on the diff carrier spline count.
Thanks

Both front and rear are 30 spline at the carrier. Think the front outers are 18.

Can new shafts be bought that for the rear that have 35 splines at the carrier? Reason being that I have a brand new Detroit locker for an Dana 60, 35 spline though.

the 1.5 inch 35 spline axle will not pass thru the spindle for the smaller sahft. some have specualted that you can bore it out,but most agree thats prolly too much material to take off the spidle. to make it work youll need new spindles, possibly new hubs, not sure on that one...

One of the magazines just did that swap. I'll dig through the pile and let you know which one it was.

I read that article, other people may be interested if you still want to find it. I guess I could always take the Dana 70 with 4.88's from my CJ10a and put the 60 in the CJ10, then I would have 35 splines and good gearing but the locker still won't fit (can a 35 spline dana 60 locker be used in a 70 housing with a 60 ring and pinion set- sorry if this sounds dumb). I guess I will just save it for whenI get a 60 built for my CJ-8.
Thanks
