View Full Version : CB Questions

I have an 87 GW. When I bought it there was a CB in it already. No CB Antenna(it is hooked up tot he radio...just nothing mounted that I can see)? There is a hole in the roof(1.5") just in front of the interior light. It is weather proofed with a rubber cap. Was this hole put there in the factory for the purpose of installing a CB? Also I understand that some FSJ's came with factory AM/FM/CB Radios. That being true, is it possible that my original power AM/FM antenna is also connected to the CB? I know that aftermarket TRI-MODE antenna's are available and would like to install one, but only if my existing antenna is not for the CB. It was suggested that I get a K40 antenna and mount it in the roof using the existing hole. I do not want to remove my headliner even for a minute to run the antenna cable as the interior of my rig is immaculate. I have searched some of the archives for insight but these few questions remain. I would appreciate any help.
Thanks again!

Some vehicle did come with an AM/FM/CB antenna, but not sure on the FSJ's
On another note... I had a K40 and switched to a Wilson 1000.... Dramatic increase in trans/recieve distance...

Hey, the am/fm/cb was an option on my J10, but someone took it out long before I got it. The antenna hook up I've seen appears to be y shaped, with the single wire headed into the radio. I don't know where the others went, but they appeared to be standard fm radio and Cb antenna connections. Search the classified section. There was a discussion about radio's and the guys could at least tell you the antenna options.

My 78 had the adapter that allowed the factory to use the radio ant as the cb ant.

i'm not sure about it being a factory cb or not, but if it works then its probably got an antenna hooked to it because it will blow its transistors(i think that's the part) if you run it without an antenna attached. actually, i think you only blow it if you try to transmit without an antenna. just something to look into.

Ok , I see that nobody has touched the question on the what looks like factory holes in the roof. I've got a "75 Wag and I've got two places on the roof , one about mid way and another right at the back on the roof. Why? Factory or P/O?

Thanks for all the input. This morning I forgot to lower the power antenna before pulling into parking garage and snapped the top off. I'll be replacing it with a Tri-mode AM/FM/CB antenna this weekend.

I have the same hole in front of the dome light mine how ever is plugged with a chrome cap and some goo for leaks and panited on the top side the seal of paint is never been broken on the roof and my fsj has never had new paint so i'm thinking it was factory
I installed a 8ft ugly stick on my rear bunmper with simple bumper mount bracket.. it looks clean and i stuck a tennis ball on it as to not scrape the body... with the tennis ball on the back, my dog thinks my jeep is gonna play fetch with him and barks at the ball (ALL NITE)
