Hello all, it's been some time since I last posted but now that there's nicer weather, it's time to deal with some issues. It's gonna be a pricey (well, for me, Summer)...
I got my front shaft rebuilt at my local FleetPride for $97 and while hoisting it in place, considered my rear leaf springs. A spring fella in town says to just put another leaf in to bring it up to level and that it won't affect the driveability. For $130-$150 he'd do it. My question is... Is this something I can do in the driveway, i.e., getting new springs and installing them? In my mind, new would be better than re-arching or adding a leaf to the saggy assemblies on Sluggo.
I'm also looking into rust repair and paint for the lower half (below that gorgeous woodgrain) and that's coming in at about $400. New EGR, $150...
In all fairness, you guys DID say it'd be like this! http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Did you mistakenly place an third digit in that figure? The Chrylser anti-knock kit (with the new EGR valve) is only about $50.

As for the add-a-leaves, that's a fair price if he's doing all the work and supplying the parts. Some people would pay ANYTHING not to have to work on their suspension's rusty bolts... :P

Hmmm... Admittedly, it's been a while but I thought I read in the FAQ that all the parts for the EGR conversion/anti knock kit would total about $150. If not, you've given me a reason to smile! I'll do some re-reading...

As for the leaves, the guy who I spoke to was the owner of A-1 Spring Service here in Scranton and he was a dirty/rusty/greeezy from-head-to-toe character. He seemed to like the work! He emerged from beneath a tri-axle International dump smiling, so he can't be all that bad...

I Just went through the same thing on my 84' GW. I took the main springs off an older GW and cut the ends off. Then added them under the mains springs on my jeep and trashed the little ones so mu u-bolts would still work. Took about an hour with a friends help and gave me a 2 inch lift. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOME WD-40 for those u-bolts - the rest was a breeze.
