I was trying to post a question in "Drivetrain" and it says I can't do it. Do I need to be a member first??

My question is: As some of you know I will be buying a 1979 Cherokee Golden Eagle and I was wondering what tranny is in it??

Its in another state and the owner is not sure.

Thanks fellas in advance.

79 is one of those crossover years, AFAIK.

It could be a TH400 or a TF 727.

Welcome! Drivetrain is in the Archive section, new posts not allowed. If you are going to own a Jeep you need the factory tech manual. Also, you better show some pics of your ride or things will get ugly round here...

Your '79 will have a TH400. The 727 came in '80.

X2...I know that 80 was a crossover...my Dad had an 80 with a TH400 (obviously a rebadged 79 but still)...wouldn't really surprise me at all if you could find a 79 with a 727 but I think the 'official' switch year was 80. For whatever that's worth...
