This is not really technical but...

Has anyone removed the chrome trim around the doors and rear side window?(80s grand wagoneer).

I'm thinking of removing it when I get the wag painted but I'm not sure what is under there. I know the chrome on the windshield sorta keeps the gasket in place but what about the others?

BTW, just realized I'm a gearhead! wooohooo.
Now I can hit my head on the hood hook and it will not hurt right?

The chrome around the window frames just snaps off and has a painted finish under it, LOL probally the only place you can really see what the color of your rig was when new. The chrome around the rear cargo windows is held on by clips that are riveted to the body, the chrome is snaped onto the clips. I slip a wide putty knife under the lower edge and work my way to the clips, then pry it upwards, putty knife works good because it will put the pressure over a wider area and not damage the chrome like a screwdriver will.

Be careful though, they bend easy and can be stubborn to go back on.

Like Pete said and that stainless around the window does not hold squat in. Heck, it barely stays in by itself. Ever notice how many FSJ's are missing that top piece above the windshield?

Yeah on my 79 I just removed the chrome 'round the winshield but it didnt' have anything around the doors. I think I'll just pull it all. I already did the rain gutters, looks pretty good underneath there.
