I am just getting arount to putting the front driveshaft back in my GW. I have the atlas in and am running a shackle reversal. Well, first, when I had it lengthened, it was before the shackle reversal, so it (driveshaft) is a bit short. But the problem is the angle, to get it even close to the pinion, the driveshaft binds really bad. I really don't think that I can fix it with shims. Normally I would cut the springpads off, but with the one that is cast into the pumpkin I am a little leery of doing this. So, anyone running a similar setup, or any ideas. I was thinkig I could throw the 700r-4 that is sitting in the garage in there to give me some more length on the driveshaft. Ooops, there I go again opening the can o worms.

Thanks,

Dustin

Just a thought, I believe the Atlas has several index positions. Unless it is already indexed for the lowest front output, you could rotate it down to relieve your front angles.

Re-indexing the Atlas would be the choice... angling up the diff won't give you the droop you will need from the driveshaft.. just hookup ability

When I installed the Atlass in mine with the SOA I had to go to a high angle front CV and limmiting cables.I am sure you have the T-case indexed as far down as you can

I woould say you need to make sure the front shaft travel is enough so you don't bottom the thing with the shackle reversal. smile.gif

Why would anyone ever think of tossing the 727 for the 400 :D you can make it work!!!!

yeah,
I still need to mess with it. I can still rotate the tcase down. As for the 700r vs 727 debate, don't get me started. I love the 727 as much as anyone, but i need that overdrive. I run a 700 in my XJ and am happy. And truthfully I agree that the 727 is a better tranny, but I have the 700 and want an overdrive so it seems logical to me.

does anyone have a Th-400 (previous QT mated th-400)mated to an Atlas II? I know I will need a new tail shafts. Any clues to which one (tailshaft) is the correct spline count and length. I think RB used a tail shaft out of a caddy to mate to his Dana 20. This is what I want to go to when my QT wears out or breaks.

Where did your caster angle come out at ?
Set the diff angle based on getting your
caster angle right then work back from there.
Unless you have the option of rotating the
knuckels (***** of a job without the right
tools and lots of time). Rotating the t-case
lowering the whole back of the trans-transfer
case.
