I set my 88 GW's compresser up to fill a 7 gal tank. All the freon was leaked out anyho w. :D It's not a York, but it works.
I bought an air filter and oiler with 1/4 NPT to feed through an adapted 5/8 flare fitting to feed it.
Then it goes out an adapted 1/2 flare to an 1/4 NPT 100-80 pressure switch. To a dryer then to the tank.
It works great. It has no prob filling tires. Once it reaches 100 lbs it cycles on and off great between 100 and 80.It keeps up more then great! Love it. :D
I still need to do a few final things with it before it's finished.
I'd like to get a big bad airhorn like Jeepbob's! This way I can scare the beejeezers out of people too. :D

M-luck,
Pretty neat set-up you got there.I'm looking at doing the same when the free hrs. come around. That would be great for my(laugh) back-woods camping trips with my Pam Anderson blow-up companion. She doesn't cook, clean, talk or drive which is,come to think of it,perfect!!Well maybe cooking would be OK.
JAZ,how do you like your WRX?I bought my '93 Legacy while living on Mt. Hood in Oregon in '96.Those little cars will make a believer out of anyone. For a rice burner they are pretty easy to wrench and can traverse some pretty snowy stuff.Have you checked out the new Soobie STX?

onboad air should be in everyjeep,ok 4x4!!!
i love mine but i dont have a tank for supply
i just chuck up to the compressor and flip a switch...it will suck the lug nuts off quickly...and as for tires i always run 10 to 15 psi offroad i can air up in about 1 min a tire tongue.gif :D tongue.gif ;)

Pop Off Valve, you did not forget the pop off valve right? This is an important safety feature as if your pressure switch should stick or you get a short this becomes an important device to keep your air tank from becoming a bomb. A/C compressors run 350 psi on the high side and will crank 500 psi very easily and there not many air tanks that will handle that load. I had a clutch on a york lock up when a bearing failed as I was going down the road and when the pop off valve released I became aware of the problem. Otherwise I would have had a 5 gallon bomb under the right rocker panel of my Wag.
BTW, Larry have you tried your impact gun out on the wag yet? OBA is the single best mod I have made to my Wag as it is great to be able to use the air tools in the field, it turns the other guys in the boneyard green with envy when I whip it out to pull parts.

i used the stock gm style compressor forever. at first i used to squirt some wd 40 in there now and then, but the bearing had always been noisey, and i was just sort of waiting for it to quit and give me a reason to put a york on it,so i stopped worrying about if it had enuff oil or not. over a year later it was still pumping up the bumpers to 130 psi just fine, noisey as ever. i finally swapped it out when i swapped in my new engine. the york im using is apparently inneed of a rebuild, cause the noisey oilless gm compressor actually filled the bumpers much faster.
be careful with the oil.a friend of mine accidentally overfilled his york, and filled up his air system with oil. took him forever to get it all bled out...
dylan, does your blowup pam anderson companion have a sister? maybe one that looks like brittney spears or jenifer lopez? ;) well have to arrange a double date tongue.gif
have to agree with jeepbob-definately one of the best mods made.also right up there is the onboard welder my friend just got.we can mig or aluminum weld(with the right wore and gas) and hes even mounted a small argon bottle in the jeep.we used it to weld my broken leaf spring back together, and i wheeled the rest of the wekend on it.cool,$h*t,indeed!
we made an adapter hose to connect the oba system on my jeep to my friends xj. the locals are usually quite curious to the goings on when somethin really bad breaks, and the whir of impact guns, cutoff wheels, drills, and the sparks frm the grinding wheel and welder can be seen/heard late into the night :D
greatly increases the fun factor to know that you can fix a driveshaft, broken leaf spring, cracked frame,or just about anything else that you can think of out in the middle of nowhere.
next on the list is to equip the suburban with an ambulance alternator setup like jeepbobs so we can have 110v power if we need it.heck, after sme wheelin,we could pop some buritos ina microwave(no more intake manifold cooking!) and maybe watch alittle tv smile.gif

I too have onboard air and it works great.Definately get a pop-off valve.Another thing I did was hook up the solenoid at the carb that idles up the engine every time the compressor kicks on.SCOUTGRL
Larry~
I went to a semi-truck wrecking yard and bought a dual set of Hadley air horns off a Kenworth for 20.00.
The pancake style tank that is supplied with the 249.00 Hadley kit is around 1.5 gallons so your 7 gallon tank will have more than enough reserve.

Jeepbob.
I have a pop-off at the tank.
And a pressure gauge. Now how bought them horns? I have a 12v solinoid valve hmmmm. What pressure do the horns run at? Is 100 to much or to little?
How bought a train whisle? Hahaha
I'll take some pics soon.
Now I need to get an impacked gun, drill, and a grinder.
Hey Scotty
If you get the 110v going next would be a plasma cutter. :D
