What is the best method for wiring a MSD6 with the TFI upgrade. Do people prefer using the magnetic pick up and eliminting the duraspark box all together? Or use the white wire pick up and leave the Duraspark box in place or a combinatation. What are the benifits of one way or the other?

I eliminated the Duraspark box on mine...it's simpler, and if you keep it the 'notorious' ign. box failure can still get you. I guess the only reason to keep it is to preserve stock wiring (using adaptors); I wasn't afraid to start hackin' ;)
Hope this helps...

Langdon,

So you used the magnetic pick up and removed the duraspark box.

I bought the adapter to plug right into the connector from the distributor; going this route bypasses the Duraspark box entirely, whereas the "white-wire" hookup relies on the distributor signal being filtered by the Duraspark box in order to trigger the MSD box.

Since the MSD does all the signal to the coil, I figured why bother with the Duraspark box at all? (plus I had already laid out the $14 for the adapter...). I did, however, leave the wiring in-place, so I can swap back to the stock ignition system in one minute by unplugging and plugging-in two connectors.

I also used the adjustable timing control, which hooks in-between the MSD box and everything else. REALLY handy device, but on that part you have to decide whether you want to run if off the white wire, or off the adapter, as you have to cut a jumper wire if you're going with the adapter, and there's no easy going-back once you make that cut.
