Brandy noticed her cap missing a few days ago. I mean who does that sorta crap?!?!?! NO gas was siphoned sooooo. Maybe it crosses over to other Makes/models????. New lockable one installed:)

Also I wish I was talented enough to fab up a cover for a cleaner install. :(

That sucks. Mine gets "stolen" every time I accidentally leave it at the gas station.:D

Yeah, locking gas caps are good. My neighbor just had someone put sugar in their car a few weeks ago.

yea there is probly more to it then just a missing gas cap they might have put something in the tank. and suguar really dosnt do much to a engine when dumped in the tank most of it will disolve and the rest will just lay on the bottom of the tank. we had someone dump suguar in an excvator at work and the machine ran for a good while before it plugged the filter and we just changed the filters and drained the tank and that machine is still running today and that was a year ago.

:funny: X2

Locking caps are a very good idea, if only they looked as good as the original I would have one on my Wag. All of our other vehicles have or will soon have locking caps.

I've had a hard time finding a locking cap that looks like it belongs there. Maybe I'll have to order one from somewhere.

I'd still like to fab up a door instead, problem solved if I make the door lock from inside.

Loaned a gas cap to a fella at Ouray a few years ago. Someone stole it off his Wagoneer at the KOA. I can't even imagine...

Why make one when you could just get a macheezmo bolt on item? :p

Well that looks nice and would be way easier than what I had in mind. I was thinking of cutting the door, the surrounding metal and the "cup" that holds the filler off a truck or something at the junk yard and welding it in.

 Left mine on top of a gas pump once or twice.

Recently had mine stolen again (4X) and this time emptied my tank. All of my jeeps have had the caps stolen and the locking ones pried off screwing up the filler neck. I feel your pain.

That stinks. I had my Rambler's gas cap stolen (and the tank siphoned) years ago - the little miscreants also stole my battery (and came back a day later to try to get the new one but I has installed a chain/lock on the hood and a gotten a locking gas cap by then). This was in Stockton, CA around....um....1981. I was maddest about the cap - I mean, gas and batteries can be replaced (although I sure didn't have the money to be spending on stuff like that), but that cap was original equipment!

I'm still mad about it and I hope karma came and kicked the butt of whoever stole my gas cap!

Our Wag has a chain on the cap - it's about 6 inches long and doesn't lock it on - but keeps you from driving off with the cap in the top of the car - which my mom did once too many times - so dad rigged the chain. We're leaving it on - we like it.

Nowadays I just stop and buy a locking cap on the way home with a new aquisition. Been doin' that ever since the mileage on my old Ford dropped from 17 down to 6.
Found out it was my neighbor thought he was bein' smart. Pizzed him off, so he kicked a dent in the door, broke the window and smasned the mirror. I got outside just as he smashed the mirror. Worked up a number on his butt I did.

yeah, that guy would have received a beatin' from me as well. one time i saw somebody in the mall parking lot stealing a radio out of someone's car. i didn't even know the owner of the car, but me and my buddy stomped a mudhole or two in his arse. we got arrested for assault, but once everything came out that we were stopping a thief, they let us go, and it was all laughs.:D

I always wanted to have a security system that would run an electrical charge from the battery directly to the outside metal of the car......touch my car and ZAP! Just like one of those blue bug lights.

Yeah, it happened to my wife once. There was this old guy somewhere around the neighborhood with a beater Wagoneer. She stopped to vote a few years back and that guy was there and said something to her about the two Wagoneers. When she came out, the cap was gone. Cops wouldn't do anything because we couldn't prove it. I saw him driving one other time and was pretty sure I recognized our cap on his Wag. Never saw him after that, or maybe he's still around and the Wag died.

I have a locking gas cap... Key is on my Jeep's key ring and stays in the gas cap as I filler up... I have never forgotten the cap cause the ignition is attached to the cap... pretty simple fix...

The one and only time I've ever been "hooked up" was over the little turd I caught try'n to steal my valve covers. Had a b***s to the wall tri-power 390 with actual Cobra Lemans valve covers by American Shelby. He had the paint on both of them all boogered up with pliers. Whacked him on the knee with a pick handle. Never saw it comin'.

Here's a good one for ya...

I worked at a Napa for a couple of years prior to joining the Air Force. One day, this disgruntled guy comes in needing a gas cap. On and on he goes about how his wife keeps leaving them at the gas station when she fills up, blah, blah, blah, this will be the third cap lost, blah, blah. He pays for the new cap, I put it in the bag with the receipt, hand him his change and he promptly gets up and walks straight out the door...

leaving the bag and new cap setting right there on the counter...

He gets all the way outside and gets into his truck...moments later, I hear him SLAM his door closed as he's walking back into the building...it was all I could do to contain myself as he walked up to the counter...snatched the bag and turned around and walked out...he never said a word. Needless to say, we all busted out in laughter right after he left....haha....

My last to early fsj purchases have locking caps already on them but I want a replacement OEM for my 1967 Wag. Can't find one. The one Napa lists is not right.:(

I have to replace mine every other year anyhow. The rubber gasket on them cracks and won't pass the smog test. And wouldn't you know that you just can't buy the gasket. I have looked all over including industrial hardware stores. since I register thee a year I move the new cap to all three.

After night classes I went out to the parking lot to find some honyock kneeling by my R90T BMW Motorcycle trying to pry my seat loose ( It was a custom made/fit touring seat. VERY nice.) He got a size 10 Cowboy boot heel to the side of the head... Never got up as I buttoned down and left... Jes layed there groaning... And yes, I took his lil thief toolbag. Still have it. That was back in 89. Fricken morons.... Yer not alone, we all must deal with it...

That is awesome! I can just imagine that scene! A buddy of mine is a retired cop and was in the bus terminal in NYC once and saw some miscreants roughing up a homeless guy, (he feels very strongly about the homeless considering many might be Veterans who are in a bad spot), he bashed his head into the concrete wall...and got in a little trouble for that one, but it was worth it to him.

I had a gas cap dissapear while at the Ouray KOA for the FSJ Invasion this summer. 3 or 4 years ago, I loaned one to a fellow member at the Invasion who was missing his and it was stolen before the end of that week. It happens and it bites. Maybe there is also some FSJ shenanigans going on at the KOA Ouray.
