I have had a problem with my truck running real hot. When I tow my camper, or on really hot days, it would over heat. This has been going on since I got it about 3 years ago. It finally got to the point where I was fed up. I put in a brand new radiator, flushed the heater core, put in a new water pump, and I'm running a 180 degree thermostat. It seemed to be running a lot cooler and I thought the problem was taken care of. :D
Well, this morning on the way home from work, it started running real hot again and it overheated. It was about 60 or so degrees outside and I was only going about 50 mph max. My ride is only about 5 miles to work.
Anyone have any ideas on where to go next? I'm getting to the point where I just want to sell the truck and let someone else have the headaches!! :(
Help me please!
Keith

I'm not much into cooling issues but make sure your coolant mixture is proper for the season. Your fan may also not be drawing enough air at certain speeds. You may want to look into installing electric fans. That will be one of my future mods. If you do decide to sell it.......

How much you want for it? I'd like the tires and all the new stuff you put on. What is the condition of the body and frame?

Do you have a fan shroud? Check the fan clutch.

I second checking the fan clutch, may not be engaging. And a fan shroud will help increase airflow thru the radiator.I too went with a 180 degree thermo(I used the new style Robert Shaw that opens with flow instead of against it).You should take this out and check it(boiling water and thermometer)they do have a tendency to stick. Also have you touched the timing or carb?If your timing is off or you're running lean can cause you to run hot. Also a clogged exhaust.Just giving ideas.have you flushed the system as a whole?Maybe start there.Good luck

Another thing to check is your sending unit for the temp.Is it really overheating to where you notice it?

blackjeep2002...
Have you checked to see if there is a coil spring in the suction hose to prevent it from collapsing. More ideas in the link below.. good luck. ;) . ds..
