I am thinking about spraying my roof (that area that most can't really see) with cans of stock color spray paint. Does anyone know where I can get "buy by the can" spray paint in matching code colors? Has anyone tried this? Good outcome or bad?
Thanks.

Just finished painting the top of my jeep with Rustoleum and a paint roller. It turned out good. Sanded with 400, primed, one color coat, 1000, and second top coat. Smooth as glass, will take a picture and post it.:)

Just give Napa the color code, and they will fix you up. It is expensive tho, so I just went with a quart.

If you have the paint code, you can get an automotive paint store to mix up a pint of the paint and then put it into spray cans for you. I had a partial pint left over from when some professional touch-up work was done on my GW about 5 years ago. I had it put into cans and still have 2 cans left. I also kept the pint can with the paint code information on it, so that I can get more mixed later on, when it comes time to fully paint my Jeep.

I think the color which you want just give the code to the automotive paint store.they'll match and give you the color.
If your rig is 1980 or earlier and you have the paint code off the VIN plate I can email you the mix codes from whoever supplied paint to either Kaiser or AMC that year. With the mix codes fr your color it won't be hard to order rattle cans but plan on a case lot minimum. PM me if 80 or earlier.

OK - I've been playing around with patches on the roof. The old, cloudy clear coat comes off pretty easy with 400 paper and the paint looks OK underneath. Couldn't I just sand with 1000 and then spray fresh clear coat right on top and be done with it?
Also, if I were to spray a single phase base/clear will I get stripes....any techniques to avoid this?
Thanks

Not sure how you'd make sure that the old clear coat does not continue to separate. If I could carefully sand so that most of the old clear coat was gone, I'd give it a try. SPI makes a good and inexpensive clear coat http://www.southernpolyurethanes.com/SPI%20News.htm

Are you saying that the paint store can put the mixed color in a spray can? Like Krylon?

Some paint stores can. IT costs me about $10 or so to have the mixed color put into a spray can, plus the cost of the paint ($10 per can).
