I have a tranny leak in my 82 Wag, auto tranny. I tried fixing once w/a new cork gasket, didn't work. I can't afford to buy another new/better gasket cuz I'm on a budget right now, so hears my plan, let me know what you think.

I'm going to use the cork gasket that's on it now, clean off any and all dirt or whatever, and use liberal amounts of rtv/gasket maker on both the pan and the tranny itself. Last time I just used enough to hold the gasket in place. Does this sound good or should I just use the rtv and throw the cork gasket out?

DO NOT use RTV alone or even a large amount on a cork gasket. Tranny fluid will disolve the rtv sending chunks into your filter leading to much larger problems.

Make sure that the pan is not over-torqued. This leads to deformation of the pan/case mating surface and will lead to more leaks. When you pull the pan again, see if the bolt holes are mushroomed in. If so, a ball peen hammer can be used to flatten the area around the holes.

When reinstalling the cork gasket, use a very thin layer of rtv or gasket tack to help hold the gasket in place and don't overtighten the bolts.

I had the same problem, my tranny leaked really bad. Had the gasget and filter changed and it still leaked as bad. Turns out it was the shift linkage seal.(It only had 203,000 on the clock"sarcastic") I took it to a reputable shop and he had it done in a couple of hours for like $60.00. The reason I am saying this is because it looks like the pan is leaking when it is actually not. The seal is on the front drivers side of the tranny. Take a looky, it might be your problem.
