I'm trying to find an article I saw in an off-road magazine last fall, where they put disc brakes from a 9" onto an 8.8" axle. I know it's not FSJ-related...

Well, actually, it is. See, last summer I used a friend's garage to replace my engine and tranny, and in exchange I bought him an 8.8" axle from a Ford Explorer for his '93 Wrangler.

Since there are no brakes on the axle now, I thought we might as well try go fit 9" disc brakes on there to help with his 35" tires.

I cant remember the place right now but I remember seing complete 8.8 disk brake kits for sale (new) for people wanting to put them on custom axles, so it you cant find the ones your looking for the factory ones would be good too. I will try to find the link and post it for you. Nothing wrong with the ones they came with, I like the ones on mine.

There was a magazine article regarding the swap of 9" brakes onto an 8." axle. Anyone?

im not sure what makes 9" disk brakes special. any 9 inch is going to have a different wheel bolt pattern and require mods to retain the 5 on 4.5 pattern of the yj.

if you want a cable e brake, just scrounge up some factory 8.8" brakes.

if you dont really care, just piece it together with gm front calipers,a weld on bracket, and a front rotor(maybe XJ or amc eagle.maybe explorer front?)
