Am trying to make a plan for my J10. Truck is my driver. Collect fire wood, haul stuff, just use as a truck. Would like to take on some trails, nothing radical just weekend trailing. 1976 J10 long wb. Do not want to lift as money prohibits. What size tire should I be able to use for this purpose? Will stock steel wheels work?

on my 79 J20 I had it was stock height and I had 255/85r16's on the stock steel rims. It looked good and worked great.

On both my J-4000's I ran 33x9.5's. both suspensions in good condition but no lifts. Worked well on the road and banging around in the woods.

Judging by many of the Tires/Wheels Lift sticky thread, you should be able to use 33X12.50 w/15in wheels with no lift and do just fine as long as your fender flares are in "as new" condition.

I have a 4 inch suspension lift with 33s, but my fender flares are not in primo condition. Prior to the lift I installed the tires & wheels and experienced some cutting of some tread due to the fender on on side. It did have a nice, stuffed into the fender well look though.

In your sig. you have quad. replacement. Is there a place you can buy these?

Here's my 86 J10 with stock springs and 31x10.50/15 BFG All Terrains. They're on stock size 15x7 five slot aluminm wheels, which should be the same as your factory steel wheels. It's great as a driver and can handle trails with no rubbing whatsoever.

I ran 33s on my cherokee for a while and thought it handled well on the road and trail. yes, I know it's not a J-truck but I'll put another vote in on 33s. they give enough clearance and work well.

I'm running 32X11.5 on 8" wheels on the Junkyard Dog.
Stock 30 year old springs. No issues that I know of.
Good on the street although Super Swampers are noisey, great on the trails.
