Ok, asking again with some more specifics...

I'm not worried about the electrical, I can do that pretty easily...

My concerns lie with how much work its going to be to make the power windows and locks move from my parts rig (81 wag ltd) to my 'good' truck 79 wag ltd.

What parts exactly are going to have to be swapped between the trucks? Am I going to be having to fabricate new brackets etc?

Thanks,

Andy

Basically all i would do is take off the inner door panel on both jeeps and take a close look at what u need to do, this might give u an idea of what needs to be changed, i have never done this befor so i wouldnt exactly know.

Yeah I know smile.gif I'm just being lazy :D

Had a little too much on my plate this week to dig into the doors and was hoping to get going on it tomorow some time... Just having a slight problem of my drill is trashed right now, prevented me from putting on the new grill today!

Hey Andy, why don't you just change the doors and you don't have to mess with anything, just run power to them! MG

Waggie has a good idea maybe even to the point of taking pics of the setup in the doors, but doing 1 door at a time gives you reference by using the untouced donor doorI remember you said donor doors are in rough shape).Should be like Waggie says just a matter of pulling out the manual(what year is the donor ?)and transfer in power. The locks shoulde be just mounting the actuators(should check/clean thses to make sure they work right,I'm sure youv'e noticed how much a headache they can be)and hooking the rods to the lock assy.Check your wiring harness for cracks and stress(should be some way to check us for this sometimes). It all should be a direct swap wiring wise pretty much(maybe swap the whole harness to get the new style fuses)unless the donor is post '88.

And 1 day I'll read and understand. You said donor is an '81.Hmm maybe I do need to be checked for stress and cracks.

Yeah, doors are too rough to just swap across... Lets just say the front doors will be really easy to get the window motors out of smile.gif no dicking around trying to get them out through those little access holes, They're just going STRAIGHT down through the BIG holes in the bottom of the doors! (Should make getting my hands in there pretty easy too :D )

GEMOBX: MOSTLY BECAUSE I HAVE A 5YR OLD DAUGHTER, WHO LIKES TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW, BUT CAN'T ROLL IT UP (TOO HARD) AND ALWAYS FORGETS TO LOCK THE DOORS WHEN SHE GETS OUT. I'M TIRED OF GETTING "IT'S TOO COLD! SOMEONE ROLL UP MY WINDOW" WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY.

Coolram: yeah, manual is on a 79, donor rig is an 81. Both are Wagoneer LTD's. All the locks/ windows have already been checked and function nicely (of course the tailgate is the exception!)

I have made this swap, only the other way around. I bought 2 used doors for my truck a couple of years ago off a Wagoneer. I was going to use the power stuff from them but time or exposure had rendered the power stuff in the donor doors no longer usable. I couldn't get any of the power stuff to work, so I had to transfer all my manual stuff from my old doors to the donor doors. All the mounting holes, etc. were there in the doors. Everything transferred just fine (just a lot of work). The inside panel of both model doors were the same. It's just a matter of transferring the stuff. I do recall the wiring harness for the power stuff being kinda difficult to get out of under the dash of the donor vehicle.
Well, I've now bought a parts Wag. and am gonna do this again, only back the other way again, as soon as I can find the time.

Haven't noticed a window lockout as of yet... Didn't really look too hard tho, but if there wasn't one, one could be installed fairly easily. (I'm thinking just a SPST switch in series with the factory switch, somewhere up where I can reach it :D )

Going to start on it this afternoon if job interviews don't get in the way smile.gif
