I just noticed this yesterday morning and didn't think nothing of it until I heard it every time I started it since. As soon as I turn the key in the Hawg to start her up I hear a high pitched scream right at my firewall as soon as the engire turns over. What should I look for to quiet it down?

Does it go away when you put it in gear?

If so, then it could be your torque converter to flexplate bolts coming loose. Simple fix: pull inspection cover, turn engine over by hand <or have someone you trust do it with key>, and tighten down each bolt...i think it's a 1/2" bolt. You will prob have to use a flathead screwdriver between the plate teeth and housing cover to keep it from moving while tightening.

If not, I'd suspect a sticking starter....another easy fix, take off starter, get new one, put new one on. smile.gif

It goes away as soon as it starts up. and I don't hear any other noises like it when I'm under the hood revving it. I'm going to have to take a look at the flywheel bolts when I get off work, they were loose when I first brought it home. Then again, I don't remember hearing the scream back then. Maybe the Hawg just doesn't like to be woken up that early in the morning.

I used to have a kind of screaming/whining sound near the passenger side of my Cherokee. Now, the wife rarely rides with me, and the noise is much less frequent!!

I would also take a look at the bendix gear on your starter, as well as the bolts that hold the starter to the bellhousing. If the bolts are loose, well, tighten em'! If the bendix gear is worn, replace your starter. Also, inspect the teeth on the flywheel through the starter hole (once you remove the starter).
