83 wagoneer, Was stuck in 2wd, they managed to change it to 4wd low, where it is now stuck. Something with the transfer case, can anybody help with that limited info?

If you have the NP229 x-case my first guess would be a vacuum leak in the lines going to the x-case from the switch or to the switch from the vac reservoir. Check the ones going to the front axle vac motor too. If in doubt replace the lines they prolly need it anyway after almost 20 years and rubber hose is cheap. Look for slop/corrosion in the H/L linkage too.
If you have the NP208 x-case check the linkage.

I find I have to leave my SWITCH on the dash in 4 wheel drive then place in drive roll slow while pushing down on the lever under the seat, some times slightly give it gas to sort of shock the drive line it will let it come out of low, once it is out shut off the engine and wait for everything to stop turning put trans in park then push the lever into high start and place into drive and roll nice and low to be sure it is in all the way push on the lever all the way to verify it is in then switch the one on the dash to 2 wheel drive. This works on my 229 almost every one I ever seen is a bear to shift in or out of low ;) GOOD LUCK BE GENTLE IT WILL COME OUT :D
