I know I never post here but i always surf this site. This place is great!!! I've used tons of info to fix my Cherokee. Well here is where i really need help. X-mas eve the oil pump went out on and chunked my eng . I haven't tore it down yet and don't even know if i'll do it myself. I'm so sick over blowing the thing up i could throw up. What is my best option rebuild or crate? Then my next delema is I can not find a good mechanic. So if any onf knows of one close to Madisonville, Kentucky let me know.

If $$ is not the issue I would go with a Jasper Engine. Great quality and warranty.
If the motor is not seized and you are capable of a rebuild than I say go for it. You are looking at 2k easy if done properly. Even if you do it yourself, new pistons valves and anything in between plus the machine work should and will run aroung $1800. But there are plenty of places which will do reman engines with warrantys for the same price it would cost for you to do it yourself. But then you need to question the craftsmanship. If you are capable and have the time then do it yourself is my opinion. PAW (performance automotive warehouse) is a great place to get new guts for your 360. Anything from stock to performance for AMC 360 for great prices. Good Luck... Sorry to hear about your rig....They will all let go eventually. But the rebuild is the fun part. :D By the way...Welcome to the best place on the net. Enjoy your stay.

welcome, but what a @#$@% way to join! my '89
gw is running on 7 cyls and my not live the winter. i have played with metal toys for many years, but have no work-space now, or
'special' tools to do a rebuild --- that and no time. when it goes i'll probably go jasper.... i like gar-on-tees. i feel your pain about not finding a good mechanic. too many part-changers and button-pushers nowdays
again, welcome.
ps. if you can't do a major fix now, try a
new oil pump. just by chance the bearings will hold until you can make you move.

Thanks for the support!!!! It sucks when u don't have a shop to work in. It makes life soooo much easier. I can do the rebuild myself but no gar-on-tee!!! I think i'll go jasper 3 years 75,000 mi really hard to beat.

god, the lack-of-reliable-mechanix thing blows my ***.......i currently work 12hrs a day, 6 days a week, 2nd shift......and even though i'd LOVE to do a lot of the work on my Chero myself, i simply can't........so it sounds like the situation is a bit similar to mine, so go for the rebuilt-reman with the gar-un-tee........just DON'T get anything from Discount or AutoZone....they're great for odds-n'-ends, but fuhgeddabout'it for engines or tranny parts.......get a rebuilt engine from either of those places, and you're looking at another engine in about 50k miles.......i know, i made that mistake with my Oldsmobile.....and now that beautiful land-yacht is sunk for good!.......
