"Best" Parts Supplier???

Does anyone have a suggestion for the "best" parts supplier (catalog or on-line) for a 1977 Jeep Wagoneer? As you know, I'm new to Jeeps, but also own a 1971 MGB "driver" that I've restored over the years (still plenty to do!). For an MGB owner, either Moss Motors or Victoria British are invaluable for finding parts (there are others, but those two are the most comprehensive). I'm wondering if there are similar catalog or on-line suppliers for old Jeeps...???

Or, can I just find everything at O'Riley's or Auto Zone or similar???

Rock Auto is good, the national chains you mentioned are hit or miss depending on what day it is and who is working that day.

BJs has premium parts at premium prices with premium shipping. Rustys has suspension & aftermarket parts. You can even order a precious few parts through your local Jeep dealer.

Lots of parts sources, just takes a little effort researching who has what and what fits who.

MGB huh? If you must mess with a Brit hobby car, you picked the right one from a cost and parts availability stand point. They're like old Chevy's in that respect. Not so though with FSJ's. Tin is pretty much used parts for replacements. Engine/drivetrain though is still pretty easy from normal sources. Oddball stuff is tough. BJ's Offroad and ZM Jeeps both cater to FSJ's and both seem to have more stuff as time goes on(both forum members too). Teamgrandwagoneer is good for parts too. Never dealt with rock auto so don't know what they're about(I suspect crawler stuff?).
The vendors section here is your friend.
Good luck just don't expect finding stuff as easily as you would for your B.

UGH, finding that out for myself today. Was hoping to source some things locally so I didn't have to ship over the border. Looks like BJ's and Rock Auto are going to be where we buy our things from. Our local Jeep parts stores so far I'm not impressed with. Rock Auto is a normal parts store, but their prices are generally pretty good. This will be the first time I've ordered from either of them. Figure telling the Jeep stores.. look.. I'm going to be buying $8-10,000 worth of parts they would be more useful... nope. :banghead:

Contact member Jeepguyp (http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/member.php?u=23114), he works at a Jeep dealership (who actually understands the vintage stuff) and sources lots of used parts as well.

For the local stores, I'd go to a Napa first (usually best employees, quality parts), O'Reilly's is second (usually mediocre employees, quality parts), and last by a long shot is AutoZone (horrible employees, cheap crap parts).

When I refer to the "caliber" of employees, I'm referring to their ability to know what you're talking about and not just smile and look stuff up in the computer. Quality of parts? You get what you pay for.

Most of the generic stuff can be had at your local Auto Zone/Advance Auto/O'Reilly's/Napa. I've had decent luck with Auto Zone, there's an Old Timer that works at my local one so I go in when he's there.

Fancy stuff you can go to Team Wagoneer/BJ's. both have lots of stuff for our old rigs. I've done business with both and they do a good job. Prices are an issue but if it's a must have part then you have to pay. They both ship very quickly.

Another source is your local junkyard. Never hurts to look there.

If you're having problems finding stuff, always ask the folks here, we have been through that and can sometimes steer you in a direction you might not have thought of.

Whatever you do, don't order stuff from Morris 4x4. Three of the four transmission rebuild items I ordered didn't fit. Had to modify or send back. Costumer service was okay, just horrible suppliers.

Ya'll were awesome about setting me up for the discount. And understood my frustration today about calling another Jeep place up here and having to explain to them the difference between a wagoneer and a grand wagoneer and no the wagoneer doesn't have two doors. I could go on.. they have no clue about the FSJs and thankfully admitted to it! :banghead: Now to figure out what exactly we need from BJs and what way I'm going to get it to Canada...lol. We want this on the road before winter! :fsj:

Best bet is to find jeeps being parted if you plan to drive your wag a lot and dont wanna break the bank. Search CL regularly or look on here if the parts are small.

Regular wear and tear parts you will find the best deal calling around local parts stores. Prices vary significantly, O'reillys price matches, I think...sometimes rock auto will be less $ after shipping, but I rarely want to wait a few days to save a couple bucks. If you start replacing things with new OEM parts, you will rack up your investment at an astounding rate. Lots of times you can find the OEM part on eBay as well. Most things are in low demand so they are usually protected by a min bid which is usually not met for a long time, so you have to wait for the right one to come along.

Also, always try to repair rather than replace. Rebuild kits, etc...if your into FSJ for the long haul, you'll learn to find deals :cool:
