View Full Version : Let me ask the question a different way, what leads to low voltage at the plugs?

Items I'm sure of:

</font> Bad distributor cap</font> Bad rotor</font> Bad or low quality spark plug wires
</font>Possibilities in my mind:
</font> Low voltage to the coil</font> Low voltage out of the coil</font> Alternator not charging at idle
</font>Am I close, way off base or what?
I want to try what I can before I go to a shop with an engine scope...I feel better when I try to find the problem.

Just a plain bad coil too I suppose. By low voltage to and from the coil you mean bad connections right?

Yes low voltage too coil, coil being bad itself (to much reistance inside coils off the coil), timing being off or bad plug/coil wire.

right on the money - an overly rich mixture also low Kv, all the O-Scope can really do is to verify anyways you'll still need to find out why so...got an ohmmeter?

No, I don't have an ohmmeter but I plan to buy one this weekend.
