My wag. (65) is again not wanting to go anywhere. I've isolated the problem as the carb not getting fuel and replaced the fuel pump. Nothing. I took out the new fuel pump and found out that the connections weren't air tight...I put teflon tape on the connections reinstalled fuel pump. Nothing. I again took out the fuel pump and made triple sure the lever was under the push rod. Nothing. Could this be the reult of a bad push rod/cam? Do I need to be turn the engine over and pressing the gas to operate the fuel pump? Maybe the thing is just cranky cause it backfired and scared the hell out of me just before I gave up yesterday. Any suggestions?
Help us out here Tyler. "65" doesn't help much. Depending on early/late 65 there are a few motor options...
Is this on the 230 OHC, 232 OHV or 327 V8 motor?

Sorry, 1965 wagoneer, 230 6cyl. Tornado engine, looks like the body is from '64 because of the rhino grill but the Chilton's manual says they didn't put in the 230's until '65 when they quit using the rhino grill.

Tyler ... Did you try reverce blowing the fuel line ?? A friend of mine has fastened a 1/4" piece of metal to the fuelpump lever (small Countersunk screws & JBWeld) with a lot of success... Good luck..CUL.. ;)

Reverse blowing? (not familiar with term) I've checked all the hoses and the filter for blockages cracks etc. I made sure to note where the in and out was from the old fuel pump do you mean attaching the hoses in the oppositte order?
Tyler, the part about the rod should have been my first clue but the 230 is sorta uncharted territory for me. I have one but haven't done much with it. I will send you what the TSM says on the install of the fuel pump though. It's a couple of .jpgs but they're small.

This is a common problem on M715's with the 230 OHC. Typically, it is the short length rubber fuel line coupler that joins the lines just under where the drivers feet would be along the drivers side frame rail. I do not know if Wagoneers are set up like this.
Secondly, these gas tank are prone to rusting and getting crapped up. There is a mesh screen attached to your gastank pickup tube to act as a filter. These iether get crapped up or rust away letting the pickup tube get crapped up. Try disconnecting your fuel line from the fuel pump, open your gas cap at the tank, and blow compressed air through it. If it is clogged, you'll know it. It should run after that for a while if that was the problem.
Thirdly, the pickup tubes are known to rust off say midway or a way down in the tank. These are a total ***** to diagnose. If you are having this problem with the gas level not at full, try filling the tank and see what happens.

Thanks for that info. I still don't have it running. I could blow through from the feeder hose back to the tank (tried starting it afterwards to no avail) so I don't think it's a pre-pump blockage.
