Well PsyOp likes running so much that now I can't turn it off with the key. I changed the ignition switch (the electric switch, not the key switch). No good. The shop manual says there is a diode in the alternator that needs to be replaced. I guess this is the excuse I will use to replace the alternator with that Powermaster 140 amp unit.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Only when I added the MSD 6A. The MSD came with a small diode that needed to be ran inline with the small wire from the alternator. When I first installed the MSD it wouldn't shut off, I added the diode to the alternator wire and it shut off just fine. Now yours doing it out if the blue is kind of weird.

Which wire did you have to connect. I installed the MSD box and it ran and shut off great. Now it is doing this.

I screwed up my original post, I said a small wire inline with the small wire. I meant to say that the MSD was supplied with a diode and this diode goes inline with the small, brown I think, wire from the alternator. I cut this wire and put the diode inline and it solved the problem. The alternator has a plug with a small brown wire and a larger wire. The diode goes on the smallest wire coming from the alternator.

I'll check but I don't remember seeing it in the directions or in the box. Thanks and I will check on it right now.

It was mentioned in the instruction manual with the MSD that run on is common in some systems and how to use the diode to fix it. Apparently the Jeep system is one that runs on.

Go here and check out page 8. It discusses the run on problem and how to fix it.

Found the section in the directions I saved. But this gives me a reason to change to a better Alternator. The lights would pulse at idle. This was the original Alt that came on the rig when I bought it.

Just back from 4-Wheel Parts. A new PowerMaster 140 amp alt. Should take care of the charging and if this does't not clear up the not turning off I will install the diode. Thanks for the heads up. :D

what you need is a run on diode. You can make one out of parts from radio schack. I had the problem when I put in my Jacobs Ignition. They said they were goign to send me one, but I could not wait so they told me what to get. I would give them a call and tell them you are having the same problem ask them what size diode you need.

Cheers

Steve: The diode fixed it even after the Alt. swap it ran on. I found the diode in the install kit and now it works like it should.

Just find it strange that this started to happen almost 1,500 miles after the MSD went in. Thanks and I hope this will help someone else that is to dumb to read the directions :D

I figured it would. Glad you got it fixed.

But the new Alternator is great also...the volt meter doesn't bounce anymore. Again Steve thanks.
