Go to any auto parts store and ask for a speedometer cable lube. I haven't bought any for years but it's actually called speedo cable lube or speedometer cable lube etc.

Vaseline. Don't laugh, it works.

I've always used wheel bearing grease. Whatever you use try not to get to much on the speedometer head.

We took the cable out, cleaned it real good, and swabbed the cable insert with lithium grease. Saved us about $40 for a new cable.

How difficult will it be to get out?? Will it pull thru from the speedo head? or from the transfer case out?

On a conventional rig it's easier to break it open at the x-case but...your GW prolly has cruise control and (I know nothing about cruise control) that involes an extra cable spliced into the system somehwhere. I would look under the dash to see what/how many and where the cruise cable comes in. If it's a straight shot from the speedo to the x-case I'd pull it from the bottom.

just unhook at the speedo head and pull the inner cable out...
grease it and put it back in, make sure it's seated correctly and reattach to the speedo head...
gravy job...took about twenty minutes including taking 6the screws out of the instr. cluster...

much easier from the speedo head I wouldn't do it from the Xfer case unless you really enjoy gettin uder your wag! I don't! [when i don't need to that is]
