Wondering if anyone here has tried this or not and if it is a good idea or not?? Pro's and Con's
I have seen several people do the shackle flip with out any extra parts or pieces and without modifying anything by just detaching the rear leaf spring, flipping the shackle and then re-attaching the spring like the picture below. Problem is I have heard of many of these "shackle flips" reverting when flexed and causing an issue. Also the shackle has the wrong angle (forward) instead of back.
Question is what is stopping me/us from doing this flip but relocating the post mount slightly forward preventing the shackle from reverting and giving the shackle the proper angle?
Looks like the post mount is riveted to the fram? I would think I could drill out or grind the rivets and then relocate the post mount by drilling the frame in the new location and using grade 8 nuts/bolts or welding it back to the frame???
What do you guys think???

Grinding out the rivets is far from fun..I've done it..sawzall actually works better...cut the heads off, zip the factory welds on the side of the shackle base, and pop the rivets out with a drift.

Wouldn't boomerang shackles work instead of moving the post mount forward?

Yeah I know what you're saying about the rivets. I've drilled some out on a F-150 and they are a bear.
What is a boomerang shackle?

that is my jeep in the pic you posted and i can tell you I've been to Moab 3 years in a row and never had it Flip back over. i think the longer shackle helps keep it down its to long to make it back up and over

Really???
That is good info.....I was thinking of relocating the post mount but maybe not?
How much lift did you gain with the longer shackle and the flip? Also what shackle did you use?

Thanks
Tom

they are 1989 jeep Cherokee rear shackles the center grommet is just a little to small so i drilled it out to fit easier and added some grease.

as for the amount of lift i cant say because i added 2 leafs and a 2 inch Block at the same time but id say at least as much as a SoA added in the front
