View Full Version : vacuum actuator bypass?

OK, if this sounds prepostrous, just say so. In my adventures under my beast, I have come to the conclusion that the transfer case vacuum actuator (ya know, that little *&^%$ that always doesn't work right when you need it) can be easily bypassed. Tell me if I am totally crazy or if this is as simple as it seems. I want to take your handy multi-fit choke cable (or something similar) and attach it in place of that "little *&^%$" actuator, eliminating the whole vacuum issue with the t-case and allowing manual engagement. Anybody see a problem with this? I can't, other than figuring out how to "lock" it in 2 or 4, but of course, I haven't done it yet either! Any input is welcome.

You could change it, but the actuator rod is pretty beefy; you'd either need a snow-plow control cable or rig up another transfer-case shifter with a connecting rod.

So I take it that it would be a major pain to engage it without a bit of leverage?
