So I had to tighten up the steering column today, and I also had to put the bearings back into the column as well. When I was putting it back together, the snap ring that holds the wheel lock plate broke. I went ahead and put the wheel back together.

The wheel is tight, horn works, column is tight, and it doesn't move from side to side.

So my question is if I needed that snap ring if the wheel is tight?

the snap ring for the lock plate keeps the shaf from moving up and down with out it the bearings on the shaft will wear out fast

Yeah you need that in there. Advance or someplace like it should have a snap ring to fit.
