Thinking of pressing out a few of these. based on M715 panels, but customized to FSJ specs. 20 ga Aluminized. Steel, should last a lifetime, paint to your liking or leave shiny. Tell me what you think, will have to sell them for 60 dollars a set plus shipping to make it worth while, and will have to make 25 sets to get the materials break. So Need to know what you think.

Going to mount a couple later on my sons truck and I will add those pics when it get accomplished. I deliberately didnt punch the armrest holes as they are different on the early and late trucks, some may not want or need arm rests.

Wouldnt these rattle on the metal doors over bumps? Unless maybe the person backs them with foam first.

I have a friend who made some out of aluminum diamond plate and he put little rubber spacers between the panel and the door on each screw and they neve rattled. Just a thought.

good question, I attached a set of thinner ones (29 gauge, would be more prone to rattling) to my sons truck with self tapping screws around the edge (bottom and sides). The top is held on by the moulding. I also put the plastic bushings back on underneath the handles, no rattle. I put about 8 screws per side, although that is probably over kill.

Ill have to ask my son, although I havent heard him complain in the last year he has been using his in his Daily driver, and they are painted black. Since they are inside and dont get direct sun it may not be a problem. Just spoke to him, that has not been an issue for the past year he has had them on. Since they are thinner than the factory panels, he likes the way his doors shut easier as well, just a side benefit.

I made a similar pair for my 81 cherokee. I worked at a aerospace metal forming company at the time. Covered it in the original vinyl and used interior sheet metal screws & washers. Worked great and no rattles or getting hot. Knowing the cost of material and labor involved I think it's a good deal.

What about 4 door Wags? if enough interest, I can have some made for the back doors as well. M715 is a possibility too.

I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet. But these are only for manual window doors. Power windows require a rectangular cutout for the switches.

Another advantage to these is the ability to "mount" a nice speaker in the door.

Just cut out the hole, in the right spot, and the speaker would drop right in.

I also like the option of attempting to re-cover with my current vinyl and cloth...It is the backing that is water damaged and they would last a lifetime.

I'd take a set of fronts for the cherokee -

I'd be concerned about cold winter days as well. I would expect metal panels like these would cunduct much more heat to the outside than the original panels.

I built similar door panels a few years back for my J10 out of alum diamond plate. During the summer months they got warm but not hot to the touch.

These sure look mighty fine! I'd be interested in a set for a 4 door. The idea of being able to cover them with a thin foam and fabric like OEM is a good idea. You could also do the rhino liner stuff guys. Plenty of possibilities with Bill's creation here!! How difficult is it to have these done in something like a workable gauge of diamond plate  Just another idea for a texture/finish look type of thing.

Oh yeah, I dont recall if you answered back about the electric window and/or mirror controls.

Thanks for a great upgrade for our FSJs!!

I could use some of those. Mine are thin plywood painted black, lol. Don't think I could justify spending the money right now, but they sure look sweet! You know, I have a sheet of light gauge aluminum diamond plate lying around the garage somewhere and a drill press, hmmm...

Oh Yeah! Gotta complete the look with the back cargo panels and tailgate!!

Now I dont mind having to pop in my own holes for armrests or electric window controls, but if you were to pre-mark them as to where the buyer could DIY, it just might help some others order up. I know it'd take some research but you could fab up some patterns based on model and yearspans so all you'd hafta do is centerpunch where the drillin' needed to be done. That way you sell the "blanks" and could add a small charge to pre-mark the "special ordered" drillin' spots. Who knows, maybe go with a full "kit" that includes the screws and rubber gromets to keep the rattle away. :o Oooops, you already have a really cool mod and here I go spittin' my 2 cents. I'm gonna go take a coupla Soma and pass out now. lol

Appreciate everyones input. Heres a recap of the comments

1. Front door panels are good, but some would like a full set for 4 doors
2. would like cuts or at least marks to accomadate electric windows. (did they put electrics in the back doors?)
3. For wags and Cherokees, would like panels for the cargo compartment
4. cut holes on request for the style of armrest.
5. 715 panels needed
6. Interest in Aluminum Diamond Plate

My Sons (they are members here) are helping me with this, in fact its their brainchild, I guess I am essentially helping them. So, heres what we want to do.

1. Will make the front door panels available right away.
2. Since we are already ready to go, we will also make a run of M715 panels (whatever the break is on materials vs setup)
3. Next step will be the rear doors, were there any changes through the years? I may have enough trucks here to cover most of the time periods.
4. If you desire the arm rest holes cut, we can do that, but I will have to come up with a way to deal with it. At first it will be extra, but later will try to roll it into the manufacturing process
5. Will take a swipe at the rear cargo area

Also, consider this before you punch holes in the panels, I am working on a replacement in cast Stainless Steel for the armrests, I hate plastic. They wont line up with the original mounting holes most likely. A little over 8 inches long from tip to tip, not for everyone, but how many have pulled off the chesy armrests when they closed the door too hard? heres a pic, they might be too expense for most, but I think I can make out at 60 bucks a set plus shipping. I know in my j truck the armrests are too low anyway and only serve as handles. As long as my source holds out, they run almost double new. These are good used.

Inside cover is what I shoulda said. Would be cool to be a complete cover over the entire tailgate inside a Wag/Chero, but even if it took the place of the removable panel it wold make a sweet accent piece. On J-truck tailgates it would be just a piece to cover the tailgate to keep it from being banged up kinda like the black piece that goes on it when you pop in a plastic bedliner.

I cant wait to see what these pieces look likein your for sale ad ... speaking of ... gotta go ..... check it oooouuutt!

There was someone here that posted up before as this was discussed in some thread but it was a thread in a thread so it would be hard to find. I want to say there Cherokee was yellow. The person said they had the same panels as mine.
I believe mine was an Idaho school board truck originally and then was bought by a couple of teachers in Washington state where I bought it. My truck did come with regular door panels though. Jim

Good news, we have worked out a better way to punch nice clean holes for the arm rests than before that are not as labor intensive. So we will be dropping the price on that extra. Also having a smooth panel is important for getting in and out without snagging on something. Ill make the changes in the vendor section.

Hi Bill-
Great idea with the panels. I like the idea of a simple, durable panel that an owner can customize to suit themselves.

As far as being too hot in summer/ letting heat out in winter- some of the peel and stick sound deadener/ insulation would be easy for someone to put on.
Also, anybody with a bead roller could add some simple accents or lines, if someone wanted to doll up the large flat areas. Just a thought, for those buyin 'em.

Good luck with the business!

Appreciate the good words Nooj. We are working on wag back door panels to match and M715 panels. You can appreciate the smoothness of the panels if you accidently rub or hit them in the truck or getting in, they dont take a piece of hide with it. As far as we can tell they are no hotter than any other panel.

I just wanted to show off my panels -

I put peal n seal on the side that faces the door for a little added sound deadening and bought the spray can bedliner and coated them.

I added the speaker hole and I really like how the speakers mount -

Very pleased with these!
