El,
My Wagoneer used to do the same thing. Hasn't for awhile now though. I think mine was/is the q-trac.
I checked the u-joints and such and everything was tight. Now I just need to save the money to work on the q-trac (new chain).
What part of Idaho are you in?
Welcome to the board!

El,
I am an hour outta Coeur d'Alene (St. Maries). There are a group of guys out toward Pocatello that get together.
I inherited the Wag from my dad, and it has had that clunk for years.
Some of the guys have mentioned that it may be the chain in the t-case getting loose. Chains are around $150... and many have changed it out themselves. Supposedly you can drop only half the t-case and replace it that way.
Problem is, if the chain ever goes completely sometimes they get jammed between the gear and the housing and explodes the case.
Put your tcase in N and see if you have any play going into the rear axle... that would give you a good idea if there is slop there.

Inbetween Hi and Lo is neutral on that lever on the floor, it will say so, but you can feel for it, I'm guessing your lettering on it is worn off..

ok, got the t-case into Neutral and tried the driveline, there is no more then a milimeter of play if that but there is alot of oil coming from the rear axle where the drive line meets it...could that be my clunking?

yes, it means ur pinion seal is leakin, witch could mean ur pinion bearing is shot. whit no pressure on the rear shaft, can u move it side to side?
