What size are the lines that go into the Cabin to operate the switch. The red one on my 87 GW is broken.
Thanks

Just cut a section that you are going to replace and take it to the local auto parts store.

For a 229, can there be a manual shifter built for it?
I think this was discussed a while back. Anything is possible ( ), but I think the general consensus was to leave them vacuum-operated as the shifts are a lot smoother and are correct. I think the issue people brought up was it is hard to shift manually without grinding or getting stuck between modes.
As long as you keep the vacuum system in good shape, or repair it so it has no leaks, it will be fine. It works well. I made sure everything was fine when I bought my Jeep, and I haven't had an issue with it.
