I'm new to 4x4ing,I have a 83 Wagoneer.I have looked through the arcives and I guess I just don't have a clue to what I need.I plan on running 34x12.5" or 35x12.5" swampers. Also I need to be educated on lockers I have read alot about Detroit Lockers are they the best? Do I need adjustable Lockers? I will be useing this rig for a every day runner for about a year then mainly off road. When I'm 4x4 I like to push it to the limit.

Welcome to the forum, lots of guys here will have good info for you, as far as the size of tires your wanting to run depends on how much fender your willing to trim with a lift. I'm getting a rusty's 4" lift for my w/t chero but I'm only going to run 33's.

I just lifted my 89 wagon with a 4" skyjacker lift, I am running 33x12.5 on 10" wheels and I need to either trim my rear fenders or lift the body.
I can drive the vehicle on the highway with no problems, but try to cross a ditch or big hole and the rears hit.
I Like the ride I have with the skyjacker lift, and it gave me 5.5" of lift from my old springs, but that depends on how much your old springs have relaxed.

if i'm not mistaken, you will need about 2-3 inches of body lift in addition to at least 4 inches of suspention lift. maybee a SOA with a small body lift would be a better/other option.
And welcome to the best web site around. everybody here will help you guide those dollars out of your wallet in the best possible way. smile.gif

I say trim... As to fit 35's with NO trimming your gona need about 10" of suspension lift, and then your gona be pretty tipsy being a narrow trac.
So I say go with a 4" system, get a 2" body lift,, then trim the back some. Or you could go with a rusty's 6" lift and some trimming. Just remember wagoneers are narrow axles and are easy to flop over when you start jacking them up a lot, unless you plan on putting wider full size truck axles under it. Like ford or dodge axles, as they are a good deal wider. But then thats a whole lot more work.
As for lockers, the detroit is the strongest of the automatic lockers. Only thing stronger would be a spool, which is always locked, and isnt the best for the street. Although if your rig is gona see more street then dirt say go with a switchable locker like a ARB or a OX. That way you can have a open dif or a locked dif.

my buddy has a 79 wag with soa,3"body and fender trimming and cleared 35"boggers
but i would think rustys 6" would clear 33's just fine(in a wag),throw in a 2 or 3" body and clear 34/35" tires
if you are planning for(future) serious offroad get the detroit for the rear and ez locker for the front, kicks out when cornering and lets you steer....thats if your getting real serious!!!
