So I have a neighbor that has a friend stop by today.
Upon backing out did not see the J10 and ran into the front driverside corner.
Bent back the grill guard, crink in the diverside front bumper and a crease in the lower front driverside quarter.
The vehicle she was driving late model mini van
Right rear taillight housing requires replacement complete unit and some minor damage on the rear trunk lid I would guess 400 plus damage on her vehicle doesn't look like much in todays world but $$$.
Now none of this was cherry but there is some noticeable damage.
The person that hit the truck lives about 15 houses away in the neighborhood - traded information and so forth was going to have the husband contact me tonight and come by look over damage.
Thinking 150.00 - 200.00
Updated after DOC - Dumb old cop thoughts LOL
Just another story saga of vehicle ownership
I have all the parts at the shop so its not like really putting me out, but there is damage.

I've investigated alot of accidents. Having seen all kinds of arrangements about paying for repairs, I would suggest you figure out how much time it will take you to fix it, add fair market value of the parts needed for the repairs, and that's the bill. He can either pay it, or you can submit it to his insurance after you take it to a body shop and have them procure the parts and make the repairs. You and I both know which will be cheaper for them. Just a thought from a dumb old cop.

A replacement grille guard is $200-$300 plus R&R (removal and replacement labor)
A reconditioned front bumper is $400 plus R&R.
Front fender is $250 new, plus R&R.
Add paint (1.5 hours or so) plus shop charges, too.
You're looking at $1,500 or so.
Really.
The bill was about $3K for my rear quarter panel accident over 5 years ago.
Submit it to insurance. Let them hash it out.

Eathan,
I hear you (Hammer Man).
But really are you a good neighbor LOL
Check my website I have all the parts its going in anyway for complete R&R
Maybe 250.00 for my ceramic coated headers would be free.
But I understand if the truck was done I would most definately go for the kit and ka-bootle.

Remember the incident about a year ago where one of our member's trucks was pushed over a retaining wall?
The family "said" they would pay for repairs and of course, disappeared and left that person high and dry.
I'd still recommend filing a claim with insurance, and hold that claim against them until they pay you.
People are ALWAYS friendly until it comes time to pay.

Is there a police report? If not, they can legally deny everything and refuse to pay - nothing you can do about it. In my experience repairs always cost WAY MORE than you think. Hopefully they are honest people and will pay up.
Not really helping here, but how do you miss a J10 and back into it? It is not like it is one of those goofy SMART cars, they always remind me of a circus clown car.

its becasue minivans have a huge blind spot on the back of them drive through the local wall mart parking lot and look at the back of all the minivans i bet 90% of them have a dented in rear bumper or hatch. also just turn it in to their insurance i had a guy rearend my 01xj and all he did was damage the rear bumper and he said he would pay to have it fixed so i took it to a body shop and the estimate was $600 and it took almost a year of chashing after him to get the money to get it fixed. its not worth the headace and having to drive your vehicle with damage all over it.

I think you should filing a claim with the insurance, and go to a body shop, and ask a free estimate about the damage.

Don't mess around get an estimate. If you do the work yourself and feel nice, then knock a few bucks off the estimate. Also have a Policeman come by and explain what happened to cover your self.

Or you can think of it from an insurance standpoint...
Did you have a loss for which you should be indemnified against? this will include but not be limited to any parts, labor, lost wages, loss of potential income (thinking sale of parts here), etc on your behalf.

It's good being a cordial neighbor. Some pretty cool things in life get missed because we don't want to be nice to a stranger, even one we might see every day or so.
But all this advice rings true with me. Why pay money every month to a company, if you're not going to use them? I'd just contact my agent, turn the info over to them and get a claim rolling. After getting a quote from a good body shop, of course.

Hee hee.. I was pretty close. (Don't worry, it doesn't happen often.)
Yes, it's amazing at how expensive body work is. But if you look at the results when it's done by someone who doesn't know what they're doing, you see it's worth the $$$.

a little league mom was dropping her kids over to our house to swim a couple of years ago (this is one of those helicopter moms who always preaches personal responsibility and is real into "getting tough") anyway, she barrels her suburban into my wife's parked car...
I'm standing there watching.... she hurriedly (never putting her cell phone or starbucks cup) jumps out of the car and says, "oh good, it is just a ding, we have awesome insurance, I'll give all the info to Cheryl (my wife) when I pick up the boys."
I just shake my head. My wife (determined to have 'justice' served, gets an estimate.. it is like 800.00!) when she gives it to the lady, she says, let me know if you'd rather I call MY insurance company....
This lady storms off... like you guys said.. disappeared.
Anyway, one of the guys I coach with is a body man (owns a body shop) he hears about it from the mommies in the stands and says "hey man, if you'll ump my last three games behind the plate, I'll fix your car and you won't have to deal with the XXXXXX'X (family name of overbearing people)...
I would have done the umping for him anyway...
The husband and wife still avoid us and don't allow their kids to hang out with ours...
It is funny because we helped those two quite a bit with some custody issues they had from when they lived in Montana and we did some really nice things for them....
Some people are just takers.
I think I"d ask the guy what he has in mind first kind of the "What are you thinking about this?" and see just how nutty he is.... he may try to dog the truck "this old thing?" so be ready for that... but he may say, "would 500.00" do it? and if it does for you... go for it...
hard to gauge people until the chips are down... then you find out in a hurry!

Well they have 24 hours - $500.00
or off to go through there insurance which is $200.00 deductable.
They really didn't want to pay any more than the $200.00 because that was the deductable.
I feel I'm being pretty fair.
Were talking about a fender with 342,000 miles in 70% at best condition
paint finish 50% at best and the bumper 342,000 miles 70 % condition @ best. The paint on the truck is a refinish from 1988 that was done OK with minimal prep and painted - paint has been peeling off since the get go from the wind over the years due to a poor prep and paint job.
Now if the parts that were damaged were pretty dam good shape and or better meaning paint and finish etc.
I would just go through all the paperwork accident report and insurance.
But I'm leaving that up to them which path they wish us to take.
