What a feat of engineering that thing was.

The plane I mean.

Finally! Something that gets worse fuel mileage than the Original Big Ol' SUV. I knew I loved those things for a reason!

cool pictures! the first thing I thought was... both leaked like crazy until they get to altitude and speed... then it didn't matter...

What a great age that was for industrial design....

 Fuel Mileage  When your looking that cool who cares about fuel mileage:thumbsup:

FSJ's ain't about getting 20mpg, there all about looking cool ;)

They are the brutes of the legendary Jeep line rolling on 4 . .6 well . .even 10 wheel's they ain't for sipping gas and hugging tree's no no they are all about Guzzling fuel and acctually getting something done :D

Now if your into sweet mileage i hear Jeep is now power by Mini Van V-6's and neon I-4's :( . . . even the 2.5/4.0 burnt a decent amount of fuel them selves, but then again they also got some thing done

And they both leak from the factory, new.

(Yes, the SR71 was designed to leak. The seams sealed in flight when it heated up)

Most jets are like that, our F/A-18's leak fuel like its going out of style  til they warm up. The flight line looks like a giant Jeep parkin lot lol

I didn't know that. I thought the SR71 was special. Now I can tell people that my Jeep is just like those high performance military jets.

I just returned from seeing the SR71 in the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum outside DC. I picked up some other tidbits of trivia you may find interesting:

1. The bird in the Smithsonian took its last flight in 1990. It flew from LA to DC in 64 minutes. That is faster than a bullet fired from a 30.06 hunting rifle.

2. They were too heavy to take off with a full load of fuel. So standard practice was to top off their tanks mid-air with refueling planes.

3. At room temperature, the fuel was rock solid so had to be heated up be able to pour it into the plane.

yeah! ive seen close ups at edwards a.base, those leave a lot to feel better about oil leaking, buckets catch oil running, couldnt imagine a larger hydraulic tank to fuel storage, makes the ooold jeep look good, from the pac coast, you coul be up and down having a brewski in the panhandle inside 1 hour, youd need 1, from body shock

Cool pic! I thought the SR71 had a more rounded canopy, guess I've never really looked.
