Anyone know a part number for a good carb rebuild kit? Seems I read somewhere that napa had one with the two stage power valve for around $50. I called napa and they had one for around $25 which I am assuming has the one stage pv. I couldn't look at it since they had to order it in from Chicago.
If the kit comes with the 2 stage pv will it have the cover for it? If not any idea where I can get one?

All the rebuild kits I've used, including the cheapie $25 one from Autozone, came with the proper 2-stage power valve. I would think they would have to, if they were billing it as a rebuild kit meeting OEM specs, as a single-stage valve would change the emissions performance.

For the 2100s (close enough to a 2150 ;) ) I have rebuilt, I used the Echlin kit from Napa, about $15.

Rebuild kt for Motorcraft 2150
Holley 3-1342 or Borg Warner 10748

I ened up with the BW because there are no Holley dealers around here (non-hi-performance).

I think I got the single stage, but I can't find my notes. As Rudy, aka Joe Cool, posted - the use of the 2 stage power valve depends on the carb body. His '79 carb had the housing for it. I will be checking tommorrow if the housing on my '85 has room for a 2 stage. My memory says it does not.

I got the 10748 borg warner kit for 49.00 from the local parts store. Looks like it has a 2 stage power valve. The 85 tech manual shows specs on the 2150. They state there should be a 2 stage valve. 1st stage opens at 9 inches of mercury, 2nd at 5.
Thanks for the help. I have to get this thing running right...or buy stock in BP.

My '85 has a deep well housing, so clearly the two stage is what belongs. Any markings on the powervalve that came with the B/W kit?
Holley stamps the theirs.

BP? In the northeast, its Sun Co. you want to invest in. They sell unleaded 94 octane at service stations and are also a major suplier of racing gas, both leaded and unleaded :D

I can see in the bw kit it's the 2 stage valve. I just hope that's what's in my wag.
I guess I'll find out tonight.

I've got a 2150 already built & tested I'd sell you for about the same price as the kit. if you are interested.

Rhamby,
That sounds tempting. I just put a new pv in mine last night and if it doesn't run right this weekend I'll take you up on the rebuilt carb.
Thanks.

BostonWrangler or anyone else who has bought the Napa kit, does it include everything other kits do? Napa wants $11.99 for a "Ford" Motorcraft 2100 rebuild kit. Yet a car quest
outlet wants $46.10 for a rebuild kit? I don't mind spending money for a good kit but if I don't have to I would rather not.

I assume either of these sources should be better than a Autozone or Kragen kit, or not?

Thanks guys, the 2100 on my parts truck leaks big time and the 2100 on the '78 Chero is an unknown, doesn't run for nothing off idle, but I haven't even had a chance to check vacuum lines and do a major tuneup yet. Figure rebuild on of them to swap in as a tester.

By the way I am rebuilding a 2100 but is sounds as though its the same kit for the 2150.

Thanks

P.J.

Rhamby,
If none of the other folks are interested in the carb, I am.

I havent used any kit other than the NAPA/Echlin one, so I don't know. I havent had any problems though.

The only things I have had trouble with is if I dont set my mixture screws rich enough, the engine stutters a little when I romp on the gas. I don't hot rod with my Jeeps so this isnt a big concerned. I'd rather get better gas mileage and keep the screws on the lean side.

BW - you might try setting the accelerator pump lever to the next richest hole. That may help your stumble.

Yeah I fiddled with all the different settings when I set up the carb, maybe I'll give that a try again.

bfeller,
you might try getting a hold of rhamby off list or some other way. I started this thread before christmas so I doubt he's looked at it in a while. I passed on his rebuild carb because there was a shiney new reman carb under the christmas tree from the inlaws. It's a napa rebuild and I've been happy with it so far. They are obsurdly expensive buth the inlaws are good friends with thier local napa owner so they got a heck of a deal. Good luck.

Thanks Chariot Chaser. Since the topuic was at the top of the forum, I wasn't looking at the posting dates.
