The clutch has recentenly gone out in my 79 J-10. I believe the easiest way to change it is to take the motor out. Instead having to fool with the tranny and transfer. Any suggestion, and what will be the best clutch to use?

Up to you but, I usually just drop the tranny and tcase. I got to where I could do it in my 7 Chero in about 2-3hrs flat by myself w/ a good jack, minus the time it took to get the flywheel resurfaced of course. J20

You can keep the transfer case and transmission together if you use a floor hydraulic jack under each. The chassis should be on high jack stands because the trans is pretty tall. Use a Centerforce 2 clutch and pressure plate, and use four long studs to draw the trans back into the pilot bushing. You won't believe how long the clutch shaft is.

Leave everything in place. Remove the transmission cover from your floor board. Take 2 jack stands and put one on the drivers floorboard and one on the passenger side. Get a heavy duty pipe or angle iron and place it across the jacks. Take a come-along and a very strong strap. Wrap the tranny with the strap and connect it to the come-along which is connected to the pipe on the jacks. Put tension on the strap lifting the tranny a little. Unbolt the tranny and drop the drive shafts. Diconnect the cross-member. Now you can push the tranny and xfer case back. I did this by myself and it took about 3 hours. Just make sure you use quality tools!!!!!!!!
