I was just wondering...when I replaced my old crimped cable, there was this metal clamp type thing that the PO had put on the cable to take out the slack. When I put the new cable on there was slack...so whats the deal. Is there suposed to be slack or what? Should I put that thing back up there? Its about 1/2" long causing the throttle to open that much more. Arn't the throttle and the cable suposed to max out together? If I press the pedal all the way down the throttle can still open up a little more.

Just wondering...I'll save gas if I have the slack smile.gif

My '85 GW cable has about 1/4" of slack, maybe a little less. If it is excessive, shim it up to get rid of it. If you're like me and don't have your foot in the bottom half of the pedal very often (no need too :D ), then I wouldn't worry about it. Keep in mind that if you get it too tight, you won't be able to adjust your idle down against a tight cable, if it ever needs adjusting...

I have a good 1/2 to 3/4 inch of slack in mine and have not had any problems. Mine does have the overhead light type of ball and chain linkage that you can take out links to if needed. Does any one have a diffinitive answer on how much slack should be in the cable?
