When I had my front driveline off, I noticed what looked like 4 little marks where a welded on weight may have fallen off. It still has one weight on it (on the other end of the shaft) but these marks make it look like 2 more have already fallen off. I don't know if they are s'posed to be there or not, but there is nothing there.
I took it to the local DL shop and they quoted me $40 for a balance job!  That seems too high for me...especially since I have experienced no vibrations with the DL on the truck. What do y'all think...price reasonable? Is it worth $40 jsut to see if it is balanced? What should I do? I'd rather not waste that $40
Aint it possible that a PO had it rebalanced and broke off those weights?

BTW I painted her silver last night so now I have a nice shiny (new looking) DL! :D

I had mine brought in and balanced and the price was $20 for just the balance. When they balanced it they pulled off some weights and he ground off the old spot were the old weights were. I would think that $40 is to much.

Seemed high to me too...anybody else?
What about the need for getting it done? necessary or no?

The way I look at things, ...especially if I don't know the REAL history of a vehicle ...I'd expect the worst. Given that you haven't had any problems that you could FEEL maybe a good sign. If there is a problem...it may not show up (really notice) till you hit higher RPM's. Shop around other DL shops for a balance ....if that's the going price, I'd do it for cheap insurance & some peace of mind. smile.gif
