I want to do this tomorrow or monday-should I just cut it with the sawsall and then patch with the metal can and a couple of pipe clamps? I would prefer a better way but I don't have a welder! Any ideas would be appreciated-thanks

I'm kinda against pipe clamps, maybe you should goto your local independant muffler shop and ask em to cut it out and wel in a patch, bet theyd do it for less than $40.00...
0n the other hand, pep boys sells pieces of flex pipe in many different lengths, and I'd guess your DIA. @ 2.25in. flex pipe + clamps would cost less than $10.00.
either way, good luck

I am pretty sure a Muffler shop would not cut out a Cat, since its illegal. I just cut them out and replace it with a piece of pipe. Its easy to do since there are no bends from Y-Pipe to muffler Cat is stright as well. Clamps work fine.

if you have to pass a visual check, remove the muffler. use an inside to outside adapter and clamps after sawz all. use a bar to break up the porcelin cat core. start the engine and rev it a few times to blow out the chunks. then re-attach the muffler using the adapter and clamps. my 83 with a pellet catalyst, blew out its plug. presto instant gut. :D i just replaced it with a freeze plug

If you have to pass a visual simply cut the cat out, stand it up on one end, and pound some rebar thru it a few times. Reinstall with sleeves and clamps.
If you don't have to pass emissions cut the cat out.As CrazyJeepman said you can buy the proper length pipe and reinstall it.
When I did my entire exhaust I exorsized my rocketship of the emissions demons. With a factory ypipe and exhaust exit, turbo cherry bomb, and 34 inches of pipe enlarged at the ypipe end you'd be amazed at how much more zip you get from one of these old turds. It's breaking in nicely, starting to sound kinda badazz.
