Okay fellas heres the deal.Today we took my wifes 87 GW off roading since my 79 cherokee
is on the disable list. This was the first time since we bought it eleven months ago.It handled great but we didnt push it to the limit 'cause it's the family wagon.

On the way home I noticed that the pwr steering was kind of stiff. If your driving it's fine but if you make a u-turn or make a left hand turn it gets stiff and starts to screach. Before we took off for the day I put motor oil and pwr steering fluid. The pwr steering pump is new.

How do I fix this problem and how do you think this occured? Is it the pump or the steering box?I need the help or else I'll never be able to drive her jeep again. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/frown.gif

New p/s pump--perhaps the bolts weren't *quite* tight enough, and loosened up over the course of the day (in the rough terrain), causing the belt to slip?

how new is the pump? when i installed i made sure that all the air had escaped the system. you did this by slowly moving the steering left to right until the air escapes and the screaching stopped. about an hour process. both the pump and gear box are new and i have not had any problems.

Joe,
I'd get you some PS fluid and burp the system some more like Ben mentioned. It takes quite awhile to get all the air out of the system.
