Price of a 258

How much in this day of age would a 258 with emissions equipment go for? I asked around at the Carson Pick n' Pull, and they said $255 for the whole engine from fan to flywheel (excluding Cat.). Is this right for that much? Should I even take a risk buying it or fixing up what I have now?

Or should I use it and the other to swap parts with each other to make one complete engine?

$255 doesn't sound bad. Do you know how many miles it has on it?

There are always extra costs when swapping an engine. You may be better off fixing what you have unless you need machine work. If you compression is good and you aren't burning oil I'd just replace the lifters and camshaft (if worn) on your current engine (having read your other thread). Also be sure to check that oil pump pickup for blockage.

Dude, If I lived closer, I would take all the emissions crap just to get Levi legal. It's the only thing holding me back from driving him.. and a power steering reservoir replacement. It's the majority of the reason I'm going with a 4L - plus, it's more powerful, and you stick with an inline-6.
