I was told that a PTO winch would be my best bet for my G-Wag. I need some input on these things. Is there a PTO winch that would fit on my NP229, or are they universal? Where do they hook up on the transfer case? How much would I have to pay for one? Where would I get it?

Im fixing to have a former CJ owner mill me out some body lifts. I want to be able to go places in my Jeep! If Im gonna have ridiculous gas mileage, Im gonna lift it up so it would seem right! :D

NP229 is not PTO capable. Electric or Hydraulic winches would be your only choices. ;)

Darn! Could you recomend a good electric or hydraulic winch now? Now all Ive got to do is figure out how to turn an air conditioner compressor into an on board air unit. :D

I have been looking into the Hydraulic Winches quite extensively. I think that is the way I will go. Here is a site for one brand, there are several Hydraulic Winches OX (http://www.tjmproducts.com.au/winches_ox.html)

Conventional Electric winches are OK. Warn, Ramsey, Super Winch, all are pretty much the same ball of wax in one way or another. I would go with a 9000 LB Line rate or better. ;)

Hydraulic and PTO winches need the engine running to work. Sometimes you need a winch precisely because the engine WON'T run (swamped, broke, etc).

Yea this is true however I have had dead in the water and tried to winch em out with the electric, and one of two things happens. Kills Batteries, or won't have enough juice to start if you do get it out. Hydraulic winches may not be for everyone but I ran a lot of them in the past and know that it is what I want on mine. ;)
