I have a part time quadratrac case . When engine is started after sitting overnight there is no clunk while going into reverse with brakes applied. However, after a few times of going from drive to reverse it clunks. If my foot is off the brake its not as bad. The chain is stretched about 3/4 inch. I'm assuming that's part of it. Any time during the day when I go into reverse it'll clunk.
With the engine off and in park I can rotate the front driveshaft 1/2" - 3/4", and the rear 0". Is this caused by the chain stretch?

Part of it is chain stretch, and part of it is due to the 10 spline tailshaft in the transmission/transfer case input. Clearances in the splines get sloppy, and it starts clunking, especially when going into reverse.

Ah yes, the ever terrible "quadra-clunk"

I have a spare t-case with a good coupler. Would that help reduce the clunk?
