the egr air valves on my 87 gw 360 arent workin right, the one on the passenger side is even missing. if i just remove the valve and put bolts back in the exahust manifold is this all i have to do? are there and hoses that go into the intake manifold?

I think you are looking at the air injection system parts. There is only one EGR, and it should be behind your carb. Do you have emissions there in TX? Someone else should be able to tell you how to bypass/remove these, or if you should.

My air tubes were rusting away. I went to AceHardware and was able to find bolts that would close off the holes in the manifold. I did end up removing a good bit of other emmisions equipment as a result of removing the tubes.

Yup, sounds like you are talking about the air injection tubes, which are not the same as the EGR. If you want to remove them you'll have to get some new bolts to plug up the holes in the manifolds. If you try to use the 'banjo' bolts that hold on the air tubes to plug the holes you'll have several exhaust leaks.

I took one of the banjo bolts with me to Ace and found a nut it would thread into and then found a bolt that would go in the nut. Seems like it was 9/16 or 5/8 w/find threads, somewhere around there, it was standard stuff that worked.

Yeah I couldn't remember what size it was, I think 5/8 though. Definately fine thread. And yes it is loud  For some reason I decided to do half of mine in the parking lot at work after I had the right bolts. The head of one of the banjo bolts broke off in there and I had to drive home with it like that  . Never did get it out, just jammed an 'easy-out' in the hole and surrounded it with some of that metal epoxy stuff.

The thread is indeed 9/16-NF thread. I bought 3/4" bolts, but had to cut them down to 1/2" long.

If you break off a banjo-bolt in there, grind the broken part flush with the manifold and tap the hole for a 1/4"-NF bolt, then thread in a bolt with high-temp sealant on the threads.
