I was looking at a 1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer recently, and noticed a couple of things:
1) It was built on March 3, 1987. Does that mean It's still an AMC Jeep?
2) In 1986, Trac-Lok was made standard in GWags, does this apply for 1987 models?

Depends on if it has the factory tow Pkg or not
Chryco took over(papers were signed) AMC Aug 87.
So far as I know or can tell from AMC factory publications trac-loc was never "standard" on any Jeep but was an option during the AMC years.

As far as I found, by conversation, trac-loc was an option and I have never seen a fsj with it. I had it on an xj though. Did you buy this wag? Looks like mine when I first bought it minus many dents.

My 81 J10 has it in it's model 20. The Dana 60 off a 77 J20 has it also.

I agree with joe about the Trac-Lock. AFAIK - during the years it was offered, it was a popular option, but always optional. I would be surprised if it was ever offered with a full-time transfer case.

Does it say on the outside of the unit like a D44 I should check my AMC20 then

Both of my '90 's have caution stickers in the glove box stating that "this car is equipped with a locking type differential at the rear wheels ...."
Both have the trans coolers and factory hitch leading me to believe that they have the trailer towing package .
Ironicly , one spent it's entire life in Pasedena CA . I wonder if the transfer case was ever shifted into low or the extra traction was ever needed ?
