Everything has been replaced on this engine. My mechanic says that I am losing spark btween my cap to the plugs. Everything else has been replaced. The engine idles real rough and sometimes shuts down. There will be blowback out of the carb because the gas is not hot. 174K miles on her. Other than this she runs great. New carb(3 of them infact)wires, plugs etc. fuel filters, lines etc. you name we have changed it. Still having the issue. Compression is ok on 2 of the 8 cly.(as expected with that many miles), 6 0f the 8 clys are great on compression. He thought it may have been a electronic module...but it was not. HELP........

Thecozmobile…
It is possible you have low voltage at idle. It is also possible to have bad wires in a new set. With gloves on you can pull the wires off one at a time to find which cylinder that is ‘missing’. Check that the plugs in the ‘missing' cylinders are in good condition. You might also try an upper lube for sticking valves… see LINK below. Good Luck… ;) ds..

Had a similar problem with a truck a guy brought to my shop one day, come to find out, the hot wire that was the power source for the coil was very weak. We did some simple re-wiring to a better power source and bang-boom....we had great spark again. So check out ho much power comes to the coil from the harness. What tipped me off was that i checked it with a test light and there was just enough power to make the light come on real dim.

If you ran a universal set of wires you have to cut to size and then crimp on the connectors, it could be that. What happens is sometimes if you crimp too hard, you can slit the core and it will definitely reduce voltage to the plugs.
