Is it a D27 or a D30 frt end that you have now? The were a few oddball things done in those transition years. If you go to a D44 the Qtrac axles would not have any vac on them as they did not use the disconnect. The 1339 q/trac was a full time unit. You can put standard lock hubs on them. To go the 5x 5.5 you would need a set of hubs & rotors from a Ford. While I am not 100% sure you should be able to use any of the hubs and rotors from a TTB Ford.
No the manual tranny D205 will not fit your short shaft T400.

The only thing making the axle itself fulltime is a hub gear, which is easily replaced by locking/unlocking hubs. Yes, all D44 axles have lockers and limited slips available. As far as the 6 lug to 5 lug, that doesn't really matter on the front. The lug pattern for the front is on the brake rotor and hub housing, not the axle, so as long as your spindles will fit the steering knuckles, you will be fine there. And if the shops down in your neck of the woods won't shorten a 60 for you, look in the next town over. I've never heard of such a thing. Maybe that is all they are equipped to do, but I know it can be done. Dana 60=2" less clearance. Chevy 14 bolt= GM parts, not the same! D44 rear axles convert to full floaters easy, making them a stronger axle. :D They also accept an axle truss, same as any other. As long as you aren't running bigger than 38's, you would be fine with that. Good Luck.

YES ITS A DANA 30 LARGE. THE DANA 27S I HAVE,THE TUBES ARE 2 1/4 VS THE D30 THAT I DRIVE IS 2 1/2 THE OTHER SMALL PROB.THE NEXT TOWNS ARE TUSCON OR PHOENIX 3 HOURS EAST OR SAN DIEGO 3 HOURS WEST AND I DONT KNOW ANY CONNECTIONS IN THOSE TOWNS.

Jesse, remember mine? Come down and take a look at it again and I can go over it better this weekend if you want. I should be around all day Saturday.

My little brother had a 72, yes it should be a D30 front. One thing to remember, (I'm 99% sure) that the D44 rear is a early model 19 spline that is okay on strength, but different parts. Also, the D20 is plenty strong, IMHO it would not be worth the trouble of a swap, unless you went with an entire GM drive train.

Ys the rear is the 19 slpine. So it would be best to swap both axles. Like I did. Matching gear sets also.
