I got in this morning to make a trip to Home Depot and put the driver's window down. When it got to the bottom of the typical travel it went just a bit farther with a slight clunk! When I tried to put it up I just heard the motor and gears turning. Of course we've been without rain here in the Dallas area for days, weeks even is some parts and now my Jeep is sitting in the driveway in a sun shower!

I'm guessing it's not serious and haven't had a chance to pull the door panel, too busy using the sod cutter I rented from H.D. What is the likely problem and what parts might I need. I'd like to get a jump on checking with the local Jeep dealerships to source them for a fix tomorrow.

Thanks,

Stuart

You need a window regulator. It's a plastic thing thats flexable, kind of like a chain. You can buy them at most auto parts stores for around 20 bucks. They're not too difficult to install, I've done it twice, but you have to be careful with it, if you twist it too much it can break. Take your time and study the window mechanism and you'll understand what to do. It was a lot easier the second time I did, it took less than an hour.
One more thing, they come longer than you need so get the old pieces out of the door and cut the new one close to the same length as the old one. And remember, there is probably a couple of pieces in there now that it's broken.

Go to Chrysler. The direct replacement is only 15.99 there compared with 17.99 at Autozone. You need to chop off a bunch and if you are like me you may need to get the mounting bolt for another 5 bucks. Be careful putting it in or you can easily double your expense.

Don't rely on the motor too much to feed that 'window flex trac' onto the channel track...or it could snag as it's feeding on initially and pull it apart...I know, been there done that, and don't wanna be there again! Also pour on the lithium grease...makes it smoother and faster operating...
Good Luck!

Yep did mine this last weekend. Went pretty good. While your at it you might want to lube up all of the window tracks and door lock actuators. I did and they all work 100% better

Passenger side rear window is really sluggish, even with a new flex track. I noticed a similar complaint from some one selling a GW. Is this problem inherent in that door?

Stuart, Did you CLEAN the metal track and lube with new greese? If you didn't that will make the motor run slow. Old greese gets gummy.
Mine are kinda slow also, but not any slower than anyother GW I had. They are Slower than the front windows
