I'm going from a 55 amp motorola alt with an external regulator to a "one wire" 94 amp delco with an internal regulator. Has anyone experienced this before? Words of advise? Ralph Shipman and I are studying the options.

Problem 1:
Too many wires. There are a white, 2 reds, black, and a green. The reds are hot, the green is either/or both the ignition/field terminal, the black is the ground(new alts ground to engine), and the white is a mystery wire that may be the blue one on the schematics.

Problem 2:
To make it fit the existing mounts I'll have to cut the housing down for the pivot bolt holder things (bolt thru ends of horshoe with alt housing in middle). Housing is 1" wider at the bolt hole than the motorola.

I'm no expert, but you can pretty much scrap all of the wires but 1 wire to the ignition field, and one positive to the battery(?)

It's really very simple. My 350 had an externally wired regulator with about 25 wires(no joke, the PO was a real maroon), and it now has an internally regulated one with 2 wires.

Simplicity at its best!

I did this exact change on my 77 chief, It has one wire that runs to tha battery, and the only different thing with mounting it was I had a new spacer made for the altinator bolt. If memory serves, I went from a 2.75" spacer to a 3.75" spacer, and everything works fine. Only thing of caution, make sure the one wire altinator has a dual pulley, you will want to run two belts.

One wire? On my 78 my reg is internal and I have a connector that hooks to it. One red that goes in the back and then the two wire connector that goes in the side.

You may want to consider bypassing or upgrading the ammeter, since you may be putting almost twice the juice thru it in high-charge situations.
