The gas needle on my Grand Wagoneer doesn't work. While that is a problem, that isn't THE problem here. I ran out of gas a few weeks ago and had to put gas in from a gas can. Since then, and starting immediately when I got to the next gas station, I have had trouble getting gas to go in the tank. When I try to pump it in the gas pump handle keeps clicking like its full. I have to hold the handle at strange angles and pump VERY slow to get gas in there. It takes fifteen minutes to put gas in the thing. And with the way the thing likes gas, I'm dedicating a large portion of my young life to pumping gas. What could be the cause?

Check the vent line into the tank, I've heard that if this gets plugged it will cause problems. The air won't have anywhere to get out and so the pump will think that the tank is full. As for your guage, sounds like you need a new sending unit, I think there are a couple aftermarket places that sell them...not sure though.
Good luck,

If it started immediately after you used a gas can did part of the spout or the little "flapper" in the wags fill get into your fill?? As Cecil says check the vent. Note that this is not uncommon on Cherokees and Wags to some degree.
If you are going to replace the sending unit in the fuel tank know that there is an access plate under the rear seat. Pull out the seat (its easier that way) and when you pull up the carpet you will see the access plate on the drivers side. You will need to CAREFULLY drill out the pop rivits that hold the plate, replace the sender then replace the plate with screws.
